What flow meter is best for measuring steam?

Steam flow measurement in industrial pipelines mainly selects the most suitable flow measurement instrument based on parameters such as medium type, medium temperature, working pressure, flow range, etc.

High pressure vortex flowmeter

Split vortex flowmeter with temperature and pressure

It is best to use a vortex flowmeter with temperature and pressure compensation. The normal temperature resistance of the vortex flowmeter is 250℃. If a split vortex flowmeter with temperature and pressure compensation is used, it can be extended to 350℃. The instrument can display flow, temperature, and pressure at the same time. Since the temperature of steam is uncertain and the density of the medium is also uncertain, the error will be relatively large when using volume flow measurement. Therefore, when measuring steam, pressure and temperature are generally added, so that the flowmeter converter can calculate the accurate mass flow rate based on temperature and pressure.

Principle: The vortex flowmeter uses the Karman vortex principle to measure steam's volume or mass flow. When the steam fluid impacts the prism vortex generator, regular Karman vortices will be generated alternately on both sides of the vortex generator. The vortex frequency is linearly related to the average steam velocity, so the steam flow rate can be calculated.

Advantages: The vortex flowmeter has a large measurement range, small pressure loss, high accuracy, high reliability, no moving mechanical parts, low maintenance, and strong stability.

Applicable scenarios: A vortex flowmeter is the most cost-effective choice for measuring all steam flows below 350°C, especially when the steam pipe temperature does not exceed 250°C. Its purchase cost is lower and it has the greatest advantage in the selection of instrument types.
